Club Abseil Gear
The club owns ropes, helmets and harnesses and other gear which may be used by members. Helmets and harnesses are provided for use by beginners on abseil practice days. Once a club member is no longer a beginner, the club expects that they will buy their own gear. Club abseil gear can be used on the first trip or two, but after that members MUST have their own gear. This is because:
Members are instructed in the maintenance and care of gear and ropes and are requested to take care of the club gear as if it were their own.
A fee of $5 per person per day is charged for the use of any club gear, including ropes. This money should be given to the trip leader or a member of the abseil committee on the day of use.
Ropes
Ropes may be borrowed by any competent abseiler with the approval of the abseil committee. If you borrow ropes, it is your responsibility to collect rope money and deposit it in the club’s bank account. (CBA BSB: 062-111 Account No: 0090-7974.) Please use the description “Rope Money”.
Club ropes are marked at each end with their length and diameter. Make sure that the ropes you collect for your next trip are the right length by checking the markings on the end of the rope.
Club ropes are also marked with the name of the manufacturer and the model or type of rope it is. Different types of ropes have different handling/abseiling characteristics. Ensure you match the rope to the activity you are doing and the experience of the members in your group.

- You will be more comfortable and it will be safer if you have your gear suited to you,
- It will help us keep the club gear in good condition for longer,
- It will ensure gear is available to new abseilers.
